Do you have what it takes to become a General Port Operator at Port Taranaki?

The opportunity

We are looking for motivated and dynamic individuals who would be responsible for the safe, smooth and effective delivery of operational landside port services and activities; mooring and ship services, monitoring and maintaining a secure site, and managing entry and exit of port users - all while providing a brilliant level of service to our customers.

This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key part in our business and contribute to our long-term success. The General Port Operator (Level One) key responsibilities will include:

  • Providing excellent customer service to all stakeholders and port users. 
  • Maintaining and monitoring safety and security through managing access to the site, conducting patrols and reporting any concerns. 
  • Providing landside wharf services by assisting with the mooring of commercial vessels, moving and cleaning hoppers.
  • Provide assistance in emergency response situations. 
  • Ensuring compliance for our operations with regard to our customs, biosecurity and Maritime NZ requirements.

About you

You will be fit, healthy and able to work in all weather conditions. You will be able to work on a six on/six off roster to ensure support for our business 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days per year. In setting yourself up for success you will also have:

  • Have a high level of physical fitness and be comfortable in an environment that involves manual handling and heavy lifting.
  • Previous experience in security or customer service position.
  • Be a solid communicator with excellent customer service skills.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to health, safety and environmental awareness and safe practices.
  • Be positive and have a pro-active team-first mindset.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively and remain calm under pressure.
